"Do not say that I am only a youth... for I am with you."

The people of Union Congregational Church are engaged together in a life of spiritual formation.

The Union community is committed to developing the talents and gifts of our youth.  We tell them, "YOU BELONG!" and mean it!

Youth Forum is back!!!

Attention 8th-12th Graders!!

Be sure and join us for our "LAST ADVENTURE". Each month, on the last Sunday of the month (get it? "Last" Sunday? "Last" Adventure?) our youth will embark on an adventure into the cities. We could be doing anything from watching a game, eating at a fabulous restaurant, seeing a movie, exploring a museum, skating around a lake... the possibilities are endless. Watch for more details in the mail. The adventures continue on February 25th.

Lock-In Set for February 10th!

We will meet at church at 7:00 PM, then head over to Super Bowl in Ramsey for a bowling "competition", pizza and pop. Then it's back to church for more fun, fellowship and GROG! The lock-in ends on Saturday, Feb 11th at 9:00 AM. Grades 8th-12th.

High School Students: Youth Forum

Youth Forum is an active engagement about matters of faith in the experience of youth. The curriculum for the year is shaped so that each Sunday stands alone, allowing for visitors to pop in and join in the conversation. Youth Forum is for kids in 8th-12th grade, and meets Sunday mornings from 9am-9:45am.

Confirmation

On February 1st, the youth will gather at church at 5pm for pizza, and will head to the Hindu temple just outside of Maple Grove. Permission forms were handed out in confirmation class, but if you need one just let Pastor Dana know and one can be emailed to you. We should be back around 7:30.

And here’s the rest of class schedule:

*On Sunday, April 22, the youth will be leading our Earth Day worship service at 10am. As always, if you have questions or concerns, or would just like to connect, please let me know... So there you have it! With blessings of peace and joy, Dana

Jesus didn’t reject people. Neither do we.

What to know more about the good news? Want to explore your faith and what you believe at this time in your life? Come, join us.

Confirmation is a two year journey at Union for 8th and 9th grade students, with meetings held on Wednesdays from 6-7:15pm. The hope is this earlier time than last year will be more accommodating.

Pastor Dana and LuAnn Suilmann will be leading classes and trips.

Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition
Well Done! On Sunday, October 2nd Union Church had 4 outstanding youth representatives attend the Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition (a collaboration of the St. Paul Area Council of Churches, Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas and the Islamic Civic Society of America). The IYLC is a group of youth who work together to nurture interfaith understanding, reduce prejudice and misunderstanding and act together on common values through service and justice to transform our world. All programs are planned and led by youth. We are proud to have Rachel Cawthra, Brendan Farver, McKenna Holien and Pete McNabb participate in this wonderful organization. Way to go!!

Next Date for IYLC: November 20th (leaving church at 1pm)

Youth Ministries consists of three interrelated programs:

Confirmation
Over the course of two years, 8th and 9th grade youth meet on Wednesdays at 6pm to explore who they are as Christians and as members of the United Church of Christ.  Though scripture and traditions serve as a basis, youth are encouraged to questions and put into their own words what matters to them as they grow spiritually and as human beings.  Friends-in-Faith, adult mentors, serve as companions on the journey in addition to the Wednesday meetings.  This is a test free class!  Come and seek!

Youth Forum
On Sunday mornings September through May, 8th to 12th grade youth gather before the worship service to explore topics of special interest.  Where Confirmation tends toward a particular curriculum, Youth Forum is an active engagement about matters of faith in the experience of youth.  Each Sunday stands alone so there’s nothing to prepare. All youth are welcome to participate, both members and visitors.   Come and wake up with others!

Our youth are actively involved in many activities in the life of the church including worship participation, teaching church school, and local service projects. Some of the recent activities for the Youth Group include:

Feed My Starving Children

Simpson House

Night on the Streets

O.W.L. stands for Our Whole Lives. OWL is a sexuality class for youth in grades 7, 8 & 9.  The curriculum focuses on helping kids AND their families comfortably talk about human sexuality in age-appropriate ways.  Our youth learn about self esteem, what is safe and unsafe touch, how to tell their parents about difficulties with sexuality, and all those topics on sexuality which will help them appropriately develop their own Whole and Holy lives.  If you've always felt that talking about sexuality with your adolescent was important, yet find it difficult, Our Whole Lives will be a true gift to you and your family!
